In Life there’s one rule I hold true:
The harder we work for something, the more likely we’ll get it.
If you want success, or integrity, or respect, or happiness, work toward it.
If you spend your time working on being a scumbag, that’s what you’ll get.
Beware the Losers.
One thing I’ve learned is: PAY ATTENTION.
Even when you don’t think you need to. Pay attention. Because things happen so quickly. Especially the things that have the biggest impact on our lives, they sometimes happen the most quickly.
In all the little choices we make, or see those around us…
We all heard the words. The “adult world” seemed to think of it all as weird, psychotic ramblings, but the things he said meant something to us.
What we heard was the Truth. In a time of “Paradise City” and “Hangin’ Tough”, for the first time we heard someone whisper to us, “Come As You Are”. No light shows, no topless chicks or speed boats in the Caribbean; just the Truth.
That’s what I remember most.
Aside from all the cliché, obvious rhetoric (“Oh, the drugs…” and “What a shame…”, etc., etc.), he was a brilliant songwriter, and a good person. He was an artist in a sea of salesmen, and he never apologized for being himself.
Happy Birthday, Kurt Cobain.
